The Hayloft was existing holiday accommodation that required thorough modernisation. Our response was to create a contemporary yet agricultural aesthetic that referenced the historic use of the building whilst maximising the flow, functionality and feeling of space for guests within the confines of the existing listed building.
As well as carrying out full architectural services WoCo designed and made several key pieces within the space. A bookcase, incorporating a ladder and writing desk, which was also hinged to allow access to unsightly services hidden behind; a replacement staircase accessing the mezzanine above; corresponding balustrade to the mezzanine. The use of a minimal materials palette of oak and mild steel created a coherent aesthetic throughout against the back drop of gently undulating natural cork insulation applied directly to the existing stone walls.
